Traditional Barn Conversion - Equestrian Co-living
Creating a Home Where Rural Heritage Meets Equestrian Living
Set within the Gloucestershire countryside, this project showcases how traditional agricultural architecture can be sensitively transformed into a contemporary equestrian home. The collection of stone barns, once purely functional farm buildings, has been reimagined as a multigenerational residence where rural character, modern comfort and equestrian purpose come together seamlessly.
The aerial view highlights the essence of the scheme: a courtyard of historic barns retained in their original form, their stone elevations and pitched roofs preserved to honour the site’s heritage. These structures now frame a warm, connected family home, with each building repurposed to support modern living while maintaining the integrity of the original fabric.
Alongside the residential spaces, the design integrates purpose-built equestrian facilities - including a surface arena, horse walker and dedicated stable areas - positioned to feel like a natural extension of the home rather than an add-on. This creates a layout where daily life and equestrian activity flow effortlessly, supporting both lifestyle and practicality.
For clients seeking to combine countryside living with high-quality equestrian infrastructure, barn conversions offer a unique opportunity: the ability to preserve the charm of traditional rural buildings while tailoring them to the needs of contemporary family and equestrian life. This project demonstrates how thoughtful design, sensitive restoration and a deep understanding of equestrian functionality can transform historic barns into a home that is both beautiful and purpose-driven.
